Overview

Information is provided here about the Research Excellence Framework and the College's role in this.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the new system for assessing the quality of research in UK HEIs. It is replacing the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The REF will be undertaken by the four UK higher education funding bodies, to:

REF2014

The submission deadline for REF2014 is 29 November 2013.

Full information on the REF2014, including the 2014 timetable, summary of initial decisions and information about the assessing impact pilot exercise, can be found on the University's Governance and Strategic Planning website.

REF2014 and CHSS

The 11 Schools within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) contain subject areas covering 20 Units of Assessments within Panels C and D and 1 within Panel A.

Unit of Assessment Co-ordinators have been appointed for each unit and will work closely with Directors of Research, Impact Co-ordinators, UoA Admin Co-ordinators, Knowledge Exchange Co-ordinators, Panel Members and Heads of Schools as well as many other colleagues across CHSS, CMVM and CSE.
