The fee structure for postgraduate external examiners is banded by student numbers and by courses.
The amount paid per course moderated (i.e. per 20 credits) is £50, with £100 for the dissertation element and an additional £100 for attendance at the Board of Examiners.
(Please note that “attendance” at the Board of Examiners refers to physical attendance in Edinburgh or physical attendance via video-conferencing. Not all examiners would be expected to attend the Boards and we would expect that in the majority of cases the external examiner with the most responsibility over the programme to attend the Board to sign off the programme.)
The course fee is banded according to the number of students enrolled on the course to cater for large courses where the moderating role grows incrementally due to large numbers of students.
