Splash into the past! - FULLY BOOKED

Splash into the past with an introduction to underwater archaeology. Learn the basics of the field, and have the chance to map out a shipwreck on land and in the water- and then compare your results! Great informative fun for students of archaeology, divers, or the curious.

During this workshop, students will be introduced to the basic methodologies and theory behind the practice of underwater archaeology. Working together in the water, students will be surveying a mock shipwreck, as well as working in teams to record finds scattered around the wreck site.

We strongly recommend that students bring with them a mask, snorkel and fins for use in the water (along with swimming costume & towel) on pool day. Snorkelling equipment is available at a low price online and in town at the Edinburgh Dive Centre (Fountain Park area). If you choose to buy in-person, be sure to mention that you are from Edinburgh Uni.

If you have an open water certification and your own dive equipment, please bring it with you on pool day, as you will be welcome to use it.

The workshop will be split into 3 parts:

Part 1: 16th of Feb, G.16, 9.30-12.30

Part 2: 17th of Feb, G.16, 9.30-12.30

Part 3: 20th of Feb, pool, 9-1

We can't provide a split booking form so please make sure you note all three times in your diary. If you book onto this event, we assume you can make all parts.
