Keep calm and DIVE for your research

Splash into a water-based learning environment: the intersection between the sciences and humanities! Come and learn about scientific and archaeological diving, hands-on, with loads of opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration and getting wet while undertaking an introduction to this unique skillset.

The workshop is designed to be informative, fun and interdisciplinary, being run by two professional divers: one with experience of scientific diving, and one with experience of archaeological diving. Two classroom based sessions will be provided, with a third in-water session, to set students upon tasks in the water. In the water, they will be provided ample opportunity to collaborate, communicate and take the lead in their pool-based survey.

We strongly recommend that students bring with them a mask, snorkel and fins for use in the water (along with swimming costume & towel) on pool day. Snorkelling equipment is available at a low price online and in town at the Edinburgh Dive Centre (Fountain Park area). If you choose to buy in-person, be sure to mention that you are from Edinburgh Uni.

If you have an open water certification and your own dive equipment, please bring it with you on pool day, as you will be welcome to use it.

Part 1: Thursday, 19th of Feb 9.00-4.00 in Room G.16, William Robertson Wing

Part 2: Friday, 20th of Feb 9.00-1 at the pool

We can't provide a split booking form so please make sure you note both times in your diary. If you book onto this event, we assume you can make both parts.
