The annual Denys Hay lecture (named for the distinguished Edinburgh historian) is given by an internationally acclaimed scholar whose work falls within the broad remit of the Centre. Recent speakers have included John Lowden, Michael Clanchy, Martin McLaughlin, Jonathan Riley-Smith and Paul Binski.
EMERGE (Early Medieval Research Group in Edinburgh) aims to promote interest and research in all aspects of the early middle ages (c. 300-1200) and includes members from a wide range of disciplines and occupations.
