I graduated with a first-class MA (Hons.) degree in History at the University of Edinburgh in 1993 and proceeded to undertake Ph.D. research there. After completing my doctorate in 1997 I worked in Manchester before re-crossing the border in 2005, and was promoted in 2008 to Senior Lecturer.
