Biography
I have worked at the University of Edinburgh since 1998. Both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies took place at the University of Oxford.
In 2004–2005 I was a fellow at the John W. Kluge Center, which is at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
External appointments
Between 2008 and 2010 I was chair of the Scottish Association for the Study of America, and between 2008 and 2011 I was a member of the British Association for American Studies executive committee. I currently act as an external examiner for undergraduate degree programmes at the University of Dundee and the University of Nottingham.
