MA (1978), PhD Archaeology (1983) University of Edinburgh; Cotton fellowship & Leverhulme studentship, working in Rome (1984-1990); teaching in Venice (1990-92); fieldwork in Sicily (since 1989); lecturer University of Edinburgh University (2002), senior lecturer (2007)
