Outline Biography

My academic background includes degrees in Philosophy with Psychology (BA hons) and Sociology with Women’s Studies (MA). I have worked in a variety of capacities in a variety of settings over a number of years.  I have consistently been in or around educational and learning contexts throughout the last 15 years.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, working privately with individuals and couples in Edinburgh. I work with a broad range of issues, and have a particular interest in working with relationship difficulties around intrusion and intimacy.

Project Title

An exploration of psychoanalytic ideas of intimacy and distance in the therapeutic relationship.

Project details

I started my PhD in the Department of Counselling and Psychotherapy in September 2010, and am funded by a Career Development Studentship.  My main research area of interest is in thinking about psychoanalytic ideas of differentiation and intimacy.  I am interested to consider how these ideas inform understandings of counselling and psychotherapy relationships.
