Monday 4th March 2013, Edinburgh.

'Training was very informative and well delivered. It was also a good opportunity to network and I will keep in touch with others on the course'

'Great to have the opportunity to keep in touch afterwards for follow up support, I am sure that I will use it!'

'I feel more motivated to deliver training now than ever before'

'The material can be used immediately and is clear and concise - best training I have attended'

This one day event, certificated by The University of Edinburgh, will provide staff working in health and social care with information, support and resources to facilitate training about learning disability and dementia in their own organisation.

Aims

To enable participants to deliver the Supporting Derek training programme locally to support staff who work with people with a learning disability and dementia. To increase the knowledge, motivation and confidence of staff who deliver training about learning disability and dementia, especially if training is not their primary role.

Content

The content of the pack includes information about understanding learning disability and dementia plus specific issues of communication, the impact of the environment, pain and the importance of supporting friendships.

Those attending the day will become familiar with the content of the pack and will be supported to develop their own one day programme for local delivery using a cascade approach.

Who is the course for?
