Counselling Parent Survivors Research
Counselling and Psychotherapy has published this new research report, examining the counselling experience of parents who have survived childhood abuse. This report highlights how the benefits of trauma-focused therapy translate into improved parent-child relationships. In particular, it addresses issues of identity and confidence for mothers and particular aspects of parenting which can prove challenging for parents who have a history of childhood abuse, such as intimate physical care, discipline and control, over-protectiveness and managing adolescent transitions
