Professional standards including confidentiality
The Occupational Health (OH) practitioners are governed by strict confidentiality and codes of conduct.
Referral advice
Advice and guidance for managers and employees regarding referral to OH by managers and by self referral.

Statutory health surveillance
Under certain circumstances, staff may require health surveillance which the OHU undertake.

- Audiometry testing and social noise guidance
- Night/shift worker screening/assessments
Vaccinations
We currently offer a variety of vaccinations for employees who are potentially exposed to many infections through the course of their work whether that is at home or abroad.
Appointments to discuss this and obtain vaccination where indicated are available by contacting the unit direct or as part of a recall service arranged via your manager.
Policy and guidance development and advice
The OHU is involved in various Policy and guidance development throughout the University, especially in conjunction with Human Resources.
Occupational ill health reporting
Any employee who feels he / she is suffering from a health problem which may be work related, should contact the Occupational Health Unit to discuss the problem.
Vision screening
The OHU no longer undertakes vision screening for minibus drivers or DSE use. Please see the following links for guidance.
Training
Various training and participation in training is carried out by Advisers including (but not limited to):
- training for managers in effective referral
- SCOTPIL training
- induction or welcome days
- guidance on certain medical conditions
- mental health awareness training for managers
Please contact your manager or the HR Department for attendance at these courses.
Participation in Health and Safety Committee
The Occupational Health Manager sits on the University Health and Safety Committee.
The OHU is involved in various Policy and guidance development throughout the University, especially in conjunction with Human Resources.
