Fees

The Master of Family Medicine programme has annual fees. The estimated fees for September 2024 entry are:

Tuition fees increase every year in the majority of cases.

For students whose studies commenced in 2022-23 or earlier, tuition fees will increase each year. You should take this annual tuition fee increase into consideration when you estimate your fees for a degree.

From 2023-24 tuition fees for new entrants will be fixed for the duration of their programme. If you're applying to start from August 2024 onwards and this programme takes more than one year to complete, the fee charged will be fixed at the level charged on the year of entry.

Scholarships

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships (CSC) are available for candidates from certain Commonwealth countries who would like to undertake part-time, distance learning on postgraduate programmes offered at Universities in the UK. CSC Scholarships are open for 2024 applications and will close at 16:00 GMT on Thursday 28th March 2024. You can find full details on the 2024 CSC Scholarships by visiting this page.

The Carl and Gillean Kjeldsberg Online Scholarships in Family Medicine

We are delighted to announce applications for our new Carl and Gillean Kjeldsberg Scholarships for the Masters in Family Medicine are now open. 

These scholarships are awarded to outstanding African health workers who are living and working in any African country and who have a passion to strengthen family medicine and primary health care within their country and region.

The full Scholarship will cover the three years of the Masters programme, and will be dependent on satisfactory completion of all courses each year according to University regulations.

Scholarship Opportunities for East Africa

The scholarships are available to students born and working in East Africa who would like to study towards the Master of Family Medicine online distance learning programme offered by the University of Edinburgh, commencing in September 2024. Applicants must have, or anticipate having, an unconditional firm offer for the 2024 - 2025 academic session. The scholarship awards will cover tuition fees and are tenable for three years.

Please submit your CV and a 500 – 800 word summary of your reasons for applying for the Master’s programme. Please note that this is a separate statement from the one you will have submitted in your application to the programme. In assessing these scholarship applications, we will look for applicants who are currently practising medicine and can demonstrate that they have:

  • The potential to contribute to national and local policy; taking forward a new way of providing healthcare that is equitable and that goes some way to meet the Sustainable Development Goals for the future.
  • A vision for improving the way that healthcare is delivered and who look to shape global health policy through the WHO agenda for more equitable and primary health led care.

Edinburgh Global Distance Learning Masters Scholarships

The University of Edinburgh will offer twelve Masters scholarships for eligible part-time distance learning Masters programmes offered by the University. Applications for this scholarship are now closed for 2023. 

The Glenmore Medical Online Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are accepted for admission in the following academic year on an eligible Human Medical programme. The Glenmore Postgraduate Scholarship would particularly welcome applications from students from Africa. Scholarships are now closed for 2023 applications.

Graduate Scholarship Scheme

There is a 10% discount in postgraduate tuition fees for all alumni who have graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Edinburgh. This applies to the self-funding element of the postgraduate tuition fee and is available to both home and overseas students.
