Geology degree entry requirements

The minimum grades you need to be considered for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme for direct entry into 1st or 2nd year.

Attaining the minimum entry requirements will not guarantee you an offer of a place.

If an offer is made, it may be higher than the minimum, in line with the grade ranges listed.

Minimum first year entry requirements

SQA Highers

ABBB-AAAA required at one sitting. Two of these must be from:

At least one of these grades must be from Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics. You will also need Standard Grade Mathematics at Grade 1.

For BSc Geology & Physical Geography, you will also need Standard Grade Geography at Grade 2.

GCE A-levels

ABB-AAA required at one sitting. Two of these must be from:

You will also need GCSE Maths at Grade B and English at Grade C. You will also need GCSE Mathematics at Grade A.

For BSc Geology & Physical Geography, you will also need GCSE Geography at Grade A.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

32-37 points overall and award of IB Diploma, to include two at HL Grade 5 from:

At least one of these must be from Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics.

You must also have an additional subject at HL Grade 5.

Minimum second year entry requirements

Direct entry into second year may be possible if you meet the requirements.
