The School of GeoSciences welcomes applications to our Visitors Programme from research students who are registered at another university.
There are three categories of visiting research students:
1) Registered Non-Graduating Visiting Student;
2) Research Training Visiting Student for 1-6 months;
3) Research Training Visiting Student for more than 6 months.
The School welcomes students registered on a PhD/MPhil or Masters by Research programme in their home institution. As a Registered Non-Graduating Visiting Student coming to the University of Edinburgh, you can gain research experience and/or study which will directly contribute to your degree.
This also applies if you will be externally supervised by a member of staff at the University of Edinburgh.
You will be registered as a non-graduating student and will be liable to pay tuition fees pro rata to the time spent here. This means that if you visit for one semester, the tuition fee will be half the annual fee.
Once registered, you will have access to courses, supervision, and full library and IT facilities. You will also receive an official record of the time you spend at the University of Edinburgh.

Overseas students will also need proof of English language proficiency and must apply for a Tier 4 Visa.
The School welcomes students registered on a PhD/MPhil or Masters by Research programme at their home institution. As a Research Training Visiting Student however you will not receive academic credit or certification for time spent here.
You will not pay tuition fees, but you are liable for a fixed University fee of £675 plus School bench fees totalling £100 per month. These fees cover library access with borrowing privileges and IT services.
In order to be considered for a place as a Research Training Visiting Student, please complete a Visitor Request form.
For visits under 6 months, overseas student can apply for a Student Visitor Visa. This Visa is only valid for a maximum of 6 months, with no extensions permitted.
The School welcomes students registered on a PhD/MPhil or Masters by Research programme at their home institution. As a Research Training Visiting Student however you will not receive academic credit or certification for time spent here.
Tuition fees will be charged on a pro-rata basis, per whole or part month of your visit here, based on the appropriate full year fee for 12 months. These fees cover library access with borrowing privileges and IT services.

Overseas visitors must apply for a Tier 4 General Student visa. All students holding a Tier 4 visa must study full-time and meet English Language requirements as set out by the UK Border Agency.
