Bursaries
The School of GeoSciences is offering three awards of £1,000 to offset tuition fees for students who successfully enrol on any of the MSc GIS programmes:
- MSc in GIS
- MSc in GIS and Archaeology
- MSc by Research in GIS
If you wish to be considered for these, please express interest in the finance section of your application form. Candidates will only be considered if they have received an offer (either conditional or unconditional) and firmly accepted that offer by 30 June 2012.
Eligibility
Bursaries will be awarded to those who are nationals of countries outside the EU. The bursaries will be awarded to students who have firmly accepted an offer (conditional or unconditional) for admission on any of the MSc GIS programmes. New and existing applicants who have firmly accepted an offer will automatically be entered into the bursary competition. No separate bursary application is required.
Criteria
The bursaries will be awarded on the basis of:
- the strongest statement of interest in the programme
- academic merit (candidates must have, or expect to gain, the equivalent of a UK first class honours degree)
If you wish to be considered for these, you must have firmly accepted your offer by 30 June 2012. A selection committee will meet in the summer to select bursary holders. The winners of the bursaries will be announced during the summer, before the start of term.

Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loans
Eligible students can apply to SAAS for a Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan to help with the cost of their fees.
Eligibility
The scheme is no longer competitive, so all eligible Scotland domiciled students and EU students undertaking full and part-time study will be eligible.
Applicants will require to hold an unconditional offer before applying for a tuition fee loan, and should not have received support from UK public funds for a previous vocational postgraduate course. If you are an EU national, you should not have received support from another EU country.
Repayment
Repayment commences after students graduate and are in employment, earning above the student loan repayment threshold which from April 2012 will be £15,795.

SAAS will make the Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan application form available from April 2012.

The University of Edinburgh also offers a wide range of scholarships to support students of all nationalities. These include the Edinburgh Global Master’s Scholarship and many other region- and country-specific scholarships.
These scholarships have a separate application process. For most of the scholarships you will need to have already applied for a place on the MSc before you can apply for the scholarship. The deadlines for these scholarships range from October to May, so you need to apply early to the MSc to be able to apply for the full range of scholarships.

Graduate Discount Scheme
If you already have an undergraduate degree from the University of Edinburgh, you will be eligible for a 10% discount on tuition fees.
