External funding

Here we sum up our approval process, have details about peer review and links to funders.

External funding means all applications/proposals for financial support outwith the University. This includes research councils, charities, European funders, independent funding bodies, government, lifelong learning and knowledge exchange funds.

Even if you are not the leading School/Institution/Country on the funding application the costs being submitted on these applications must still go through the formal costing and sign off process.

Approval process

Contact with the RKE Office (Lesley Thomson or Catherine Burns) is very important and should be made as soon as you have identified a funding source or call.

We will inform you of internal deadlines and outline the Head of School approval procedures.

Salary costs will be provided by the RKE team who make a formal request to Edinburgh Research & Innovation (ERI) on your behalf.

The team can also advise/help with all other costs required for the proposed project.

Peer review

All Research Council and Leverhulme applications for funding must now undergo peer review. Please see the document below for timescales and processes.
