Where is that Bob Kibble?
The Maths/Science conference 2011 ...The first ever science and maths combined pedagogy conference in Sweden which attracted 1500 delegates from across Stockholm and surrounding areas.
The programme included parallel sessions on pedagogy, research and curriculum innovation as well as a large exhibition of resources. The friendly conference tone was exemplified by delegates being greeted in the main auditorium by a blues band formed of members of the planning committee singing songs about magnetism and children's ideas.
Presentations were in either English or Swedish. I offered 'Here Comes the Sun' - a participatory workshop which drew on the rich legacy of song, storytelling and storyline to illustrate my work with Edinburgh primary schools. The 35 participants, mostly teachers and teacher educators, engaged in role play, song and group tasks exploring children's learning about night, day, shadows and stone circles. It was, as it should be, challenging, uplifting and exhausting. I was indeed lucky to have been invited to make one of the international contributions.
Congratulations to Marianne McCron who has won the prestigious George D Gray Award for the best undergraduate thesis in teacher education in Scotland. Marianne is one of our 2010 BEd Primary Education graduates.
