This Certificate programme has been introduced in response to the growing global interest in children’s physical education, physical activity, sport and well-being.
|Name||3-14 Physical Education|
|Mode of Study||PG Certificate (Part-time)|
|Programme Director||Dr Mike Jess|
The Postgraduate Certificate in 3-14 Physical Education will be of interest to all teachers and physical activity professionals working across the 3-14 age range.
We’ve been delivering the Certificate here at the University of Edinburgh since 2006 and, to-date, over 400 students have completed the programme.
Courses involve a detailed investigation of the complex developmental, curriculum, pedagogy, professional learning and policy knowledge needed to support appropriate learning experiences in different contexts across this age range.
In addition, with physical activity being a shared experience, students will critically investigate the collaboration and partnership issues raised in school and local community settings.
The one or two year part-time and blended learning nature of the programme will enable students to complete the qualification while maintaining their current professional role.
The programme is suitable for teachers working in primary and secondary schools and physical activity professionals with a particular interest in children and young people’s physical education, sport and physical activity.
The programme should be of particular interest to primary school teachers wishing to develop a specialism in physical education. However, prospective students should be aware that this programme does not include qualified teacher status i.e. it is not an initial teacher education programme.
