Guidance for staff on quality processes

Guidance for course and programme monitoring and evaluation, annual reporting, peer observation of teaching, and internal and external review.

Course development

When developing, evaluating and reviewing courses, due attention should be given to the College Learning and Teaching Strategy, and the QAA for Scotland Enhancement Themes. All courses are required to embed principles of Accessibility into course development, delivery and review.

Course and programme monitoring and evaluation

The School’s monitoring and evaluation procedures are based on a series of University-wide principles.

Monitoring and evaluation pro-forma are revised annually, and revised guidance is issued directly to all staff by the School's Director and Deputy Director of Quality.

Monitoring and evaluation pro-forma are revised annually, and revised guidance is issued directly to all staff by the School's Director and Deputy Director of Quality.

Course and programme monitoring for 2012-13 will take place via the School's online portal. Staff can access the portal via the staff intranet:

Course monitoring should be completed as soon as possible after the relevant Board of Examiners meeting: where the Board of Examiners meeting takes place during or before March, course monitoring should be completed by the end of March; where the Board of Examiners meeting takes place during or before June, course monitoring should be completed by July; and where the Board of Examiners meeting takes place during or before September, course monitoring should be completed by the end of September.

Programme monitoring should be completed by the end of September, except where programmes contain one or more courses with a September Board of Examiners meeting, in which case programme monitoring should be completed as soon as all course monitoring is complete, and by the end of October at the latest. Reminders are sent via email, and all information relevant to course and programme monitoring, including key dates, can be found on the course and programme monitoring portal.
