Overview
Over the following pages, this section will outline the history of professional teacher training at Moray House, spanning nearly 200 years.
The 20th century saw three anniversaries celebrated at Moray House:
- the first in 1935 commemorated 100 years of formal teacher training in Scotland;
- the second in 1948 marked a century of teacher training at Moray House;
- and in 1998 our 150th anniversary was celebrated.
This last anniversary coincided with the merger of Moray House with the University of Edinburgh. For nearly two centuries Moray House and its predecessors have been involved in the professional training of teachers and other professionals. This history traces the many changes occurring during this period and how they mirrored changes in Scottish education in general.
