Outline Biography

Dean studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design graduating from the BA Fine Art in 1996. between 2000-7 he was lecturer in Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2007 he was appointed as Head of Department of Contemporary Art and in 2008 he founded the Intermedia Art programme. In 2009 he was appointed Associate Head of the School of Art. He has been a visiting artist at Univeristy of Central Lancashire, University of Sunderland, Chelsea College of Art and Design, Nottingham Trent University, and KUVA academy, Helsinki. 

He has a particular focus on art practices post 1945 and his work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions in the UK, Europe, and USA.

In 2000 he was included in the Hayward Galleries Five year yearly survey exhibition-British Art Show 5.

In 2005 he was included in Phaidon's  Vitamin D 'New Perspectives in Drawing'

In 2010 he was included in the Saatchi Galleries exhibition 'Newspeak-British Art now'

Teaching

Dean teaches across all years of undergraduate Intermedia.  He runs a series of seminars at 3rd year and 4th year covering postmedia artistic strategies.

He is currently external examiner for BA Fine Art at De Monfort University, Leicester, and BA Art and Visual Culture, University of West of England, Bristol.
