What is Knowledge Exchange?

Knowledge Exchange is a multi-directional process that brings academic staff, users of research and wider groups and communities together to exchange ideas, research and expertise. Knowledge Exchange may benefit research by bringing new ideas from practitioners and users that highlight particular needs and issues not formally addressed in conventional modes of research.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has adopted an energetic and proactive strategy to develop and promote Knowledge Exchange.

This sharing and exchange of knowledge with the wider community is an integral part of the activity of ECA and is embedded in the work with of many staff. The output of the strong research base that exists in Edinburgh College of Art is diffused outwards and, correspondingly, responds to the stimuli from the wider communities.

Such exchanges include:

Voluntary organisations, schools and colleges, businesses and the general public are only some of the communities that benefit from working with the School. Staff and students also benefit from these interactions through research, teaching and other activities.

Recent and current knowledge exchange activities are detailed below. For further information, please contact Prof Remo Pedreschi, School Research, Ethics and Knowledge Exchange Director.
