How to apply

All applicants who intend to study for a full-time first degree must apply through the UCAS system. The UCAS handbook and application form can be obtained through your school or college or by using the tear-off sheet at the back of the University of Edinburgh Undergraduate Prospectus.

The codes you need for Music at Edinburgh are:

The Admissions Tutor considers all applications and selected candidates are invited to attend for interview. In many cases offers are made without interview although additional evidence of musical ability may be required.

Where it is felt necessary to invite a candidate to attend an interview, he or she will have the choice of coming to Edinburgh on one of a number of selected dates between December and March. During an interview, a candidate will be asked to perform on his or her chosen instrument(s)/voice, to undertake sight-reading and other tests, and to demonstrate a lively and enquiring musical mind.

He or she may also be asked to send, in advance of an interview, some written work, such as harmony, composition and essays. Such work is helpful in assisting the interviewer to make an assessment.
