Music in the Community is a relatively young discipline emerging at the meeting point of performing arts outreach, community development, creative arts therapies and conflict resolution.

About the programme

The new MSc in Music in the Community is designed as a programme in advanced practical skills, personal creative development, applied research and assessment methodologies.

It also prepares students to understand current scientific and theoretical frameworks for human musicality.

The programme is designed to reach across science, research and practice, to cater for both researchers and practitioners of Music in the Community, who will benefit from:

a wide and well-established network of collaborative relationships with Departments of Health, Education and Social Services, Local Authorities in Scotland, and international agencies and NGOs (Non-Government Organisations)
links with the award-winning undergraduate course in Music in the Community (Queen’s Anniversary Prize, Thorn-EMI Award)
links with the new Institute for Human and Social Development
a vibrant musical and creative environment in the city of Edinburgh
