Outline Biography

I was born in Galway on the west coast of Ireland, and studied English and Philosophy in the same town for my undergraduate degree. I studied for my Master's degree in Popular Literature at Trinity College, Dublin and there I became interested in crossovers between literature and music.

My thesis is to draw a cultural history from literature and music which shares a common sensibility - it extends from Movement realist fiction and so-called 'Angry Young Men' drama into 1980s post-punk. Because of the dual nature of my PhD, I am supervised in both Music and English.
