
The Isover Architectural Design Competition is an annual student design competition open to all architecture students studying at a RIBA accredited university. This years brief asked entrants to design a sustainable living community for 12 to 15 families in the Trent Basin area of Nottingham. Eight entries were shortlisted from the UK to compete in the UK finals at EcoBuild in London's Excel.
Emmett McNamara and Dan Shanahan, ESALA students from the Master of Architecture programme, were awarded 1st prize for their Trent Quay design and will now go on to compete with winners from 60 countries in the international finals in Bratislava at the end of May. The design took an eco-minimalist low tech approach to sustainable living using Brettstapel building technology and revitalising existing buildings.
