Background

José V. Rodríguez Mora was born in Barcelona in 1965. He studied Economics at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, got a PhD from MIT in 1995, and moved to Universitat Pompeu Fabra upon graduation.

He has been visiting researcher at the IIES (Stockholm University) in 1998-99 and 2000-01. His previous post was at the University of Southampton.

As a macroeconomist his research is centered in

  • (a) the allocation of human resources (particularly its relationship with
  • (a1) the level of inter-generational economic and social mobility
  • (a2) accumulation of factors and
  • (a3) general economic efficiency and
  • (b) political economy, specifically:
  • (b1) time inconsistency issues with and without heterogeneous agents,
  • (b2) rationality of voters and irrationality of institutions; and aspects related to
  • (b3) the labor market and
  • (b5) the welfare state)

He has published on these subjects in the American Economic Review, the International Economic Review and the European Economic Review. He has also published in specialized journals like the Journal of Public Economics or the Journal of Economic Growth. Outside the profession, he likes to read and write on Nation, State, and its relationship.
