Day to day

Information about daily routines and how we do things in the Nursery, which might be useful for parents.

Wellies stored on a rack in the Nursery

What to bring?

Please bring nappies and wipes, cotton wool etc. on a daily or weekly basis.

Each day, please bring appropriate seasonal outdoor clothing (hat/sunhat, gloves, boots, a jacket) for your child as they are in the garden every day. We believe that there is no such thing as bad weather - only inappropriate clothing!

Bearing in mind that accidents can happen, we would also be grateful if children brought a spare set of clothes, clearly labelled with their name or initials.

If your child uses a pram or buggy, these can be left in the storage space in the Nursery garden.

Please don't bring any of your child's personal toys to Nursery, as these can get lost amongst all the equipment and toys here, causing great upset.

However, if your child has a comforter or a favourite cuddly toy for nap/quiet time, then that is permissable.

Medicines

If your child is taking any medicines or needs any creams administered during the day, please discuss this with their key worker, who will complete a medicine plan.

Medicines can only be administered by staff after written permission is given by parents.

Sickness

If your child is unwell, it is better that they remain at home.

Should your child become unwell in the Nursery, we will contact you, and you may be asked to collect them.

We follow the "Guidelines for Communicable Diseases in Pre-School Children" from Lothian Health Board.

Safety and security

In the interests of safety, we would ask that you let us know who will normally be collecting your child.

It is also important that you sign your child in and out each day, as this sheet is used as a checklist in the event of us having to leave the building in an emergency.

All the Nursery doors and gates have a security lock, to prevent unauthorised access. Please close all doors behind you on entering and leaving, and please do not allow your child to open the main doors.

Parents will be issued with the door security code when the child first starts at the Nursery.

Should an emergency occur, it is vital that yoru contact telephone numbers are up to date - if you move house or job please inform us of your new details.

Birthdays

Poster with children's birthdays

We like to celebrate each child's birthday with a small party. Parents are welcome to bring along a cake for the group to share.

Parking

There is a safe parking place at the rear of the Nursery with access to the Nursery via the garden gate (which is fitted with a security lock).

If you would like to apply for a parking permit, please contact the Nursery manager for details.
