Principal's Medal winner

Lesley Forrest wins inaugural Principal's Medal

Lesley Forrest

Lesley Forrest from Financial Accounting is the worthy winner of the first Principal's Medal in recognition of her voluntary work with organ donors and transplant recipients.

After years of dialysis and then the gift of a kidney transplant 11 years ago, Lesley has been an inspiration to others - holding down a full-time job, raising a family, offering counselling and support to other transplant recipients, and becoming a World Champion!

The Transplant Games

Lesley has represented "Team GB" at several Transplant Games in Bath, Edinburgh and Bangkok, successfully competing in both swimming and walking events and winning many gold, silver and bronze medals.

As a measure of the high regard held for Lesley by the organisers of this year's British Transplant Games in Sheffield, she was nominated to carry the Transplant Torch into the opening arena.

Last year, many organ transplant recipients benefited from Lesley's organisational skills when she voluntarily helped manage the Edinburgh British Transplant Games and many of the social and promotional events.

This, combined with her sporting achievements, led the Principal's Medal Selection Committee to unanimously vote Lesley as the first winner of this honour.

Medal presentation

Lesley will be presented with her award in the McEwan Hall at the 2009 Summer Graduations.
