Corporate Services facts and figures
- Corporate Services Group (CSG) is one of three Support Groups that support the three Colleges (consisting of 21 Schools) to deliver the University's activities
- CSG is organised in to 10 business units (four commercial and six core operations)
- CSG employs over 1,500 staff (based on FTE) which represents nearly 20% of the University staff of 7,400
- CSG's turnover is almost £75m representing 16% of the University's turnover of £477m (2006-2007)
Accommodation Services
The University offers nearly 6,000 rooms based over 30 sites across the city.
All new single undergraduates living outside Edinburgh are guaranteed a room.
In 2007-2008 we accommodated more than 4,000 new undergraduates and around 1,000 new postgraduates.
Research and commercialisation
In 2006-2007, through our technology transfer office, Edinburgh Research and Innovation (ERI), we have:
- received 120 technology disclosures
- filed 77 patents
- negotiated 66 new licensing deals
- supported the creation of 16 new companies and businesses
- earned £3.5 million from consultancy contracts
The University is committed to supporting the formation of companies (spin-outs and start-ups).
Over the past five years, we have supported the creation of 62 new companies and businesses - attracting £19.3 million in investment funding and generating 226 new jobs.
Fifty-eight (95%) of these early stage companies are still trading.
The University is currently developing two science and technology parks: Edinburgh Technopole, housing 23 companies, and Edinburgh BioQuarter, which will result in 6,500 jobs.
