The University of Edinburgh has been deeply involved in public life since its foundation in 1583.
The University’s Director of Communications, Marketing and External Affairs is Dr Ian Conn, and he has responsibility for enhancing public awareness of the contribution that staff, students and the University make to society; for facilitating relationships with the communities the University serves; and for managing the University’s global reputation and its communications and marketing activities worldwide.
Ian leads a team of communications and marketing professionals that deliver support services to academic and support groups in order to assist them to achieve University objectives.
Ian is a graduate of the University, receiving a Doctorate for his work on higher education research policy generally, and research pooling in Scotland in particular. He has extensive experience of marketing and communication in the private and public sectors as a practitioner and as a consultant, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Member of The Marketing Society and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
