CHASTE ProjectCHASTE Project

Colleges' Health and Safety Community of Practice

To help ensure that the CHASTE Project leaves a positive legacy on its conclusion in April 2010, and to promote a health and safety network for continual improvement, a new Colleges' Health and Safety Community of Practice (HS CoP) has been formed with Scotland’s Colleges, to establish networking and provide a Steering Group for the college sector.

This group will liaise with strategic partners such as Scottish Healthy Working Lives and the HSE for policy and planning.

We also plan to establish links with the other CoP groups for example the HR CoP group.

Such meetings have already begun with Andy Cathro, from Dundee College, representing the HS CoP at the Chairs meeting at Scotland’s Colleges on 21st June.

It is envisaged that the HS CoP will provide two health and safety events and one conference per annum, similar to those arranged by CHASTE, to maintain and progress the sharing of information and refresh and reinforce positive health and safety practice in the college sector.

Website

The website is provided for all Colleges within Scotland and will only develop with “buy in” and contribution from health and safety colleagues within the whole college sector.

Steering Group

Les Allan and/or Donnie Blue will continue to attend the HS CoP meetings for the remaining CHASTE term to offer information crucial for a successful transition.

Feedback

Please contact Claire Shiels or any of the Steering Group members with any suggestions for future events or forums or if there is particular information you feel would be worth sharing through the HS CoP webpage.

You may also wish to discuss ideas within your own regional meetings for group feedback to the Steering Group.

The HS CoP is keen for everyone to engage with their website in the future, which will eventually replace the CHASTE website, to allow you to see what’s going on in the sector and to review information that you may wish to utilise to progress health and safety in your organisation.
