Advertising part time and vacation jobs
We advertise a wide variety of part time, one off and vacation vacancies as diverse as hot air balloon crew, call centre operators, shop assistants and website designers.
We particularly welcome vacancies which allow students to use course-related skills, for example, tutoring, research, translation and IT. You can advertise one-off short term vacancies, from as little as one hour, to more regular opportunities.
Only matriculated students of the University of Edinburgh can access part time and vacation work vacancies on the SAGE Website.

Conditions of advertising
During the semester we advertise vacancies of up to 15 hours per week. During vacations vacancies can be full or part time.

Best practice in student recruitment
The processes involved in recruiting a student for part time semester work, vacation work or into a formal internship should not differ from your standard recruitment process. However, you may not be fully familiar with your obligations.
In our experience it’s always better to ensure that the student you recruit is fully aware of what is expected of them before starting work. A starting point would be to ensure that you provide the student employee with:
- an offer letter, detailing hours, rate of pay, holiday entitlement
- a written statement of particulars (you are legally obliged to do so within two months of starting work)
- a fair rate of pay for the job which meets or exceeds the National Minimum Wage. Visit HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) website for further information on the National Minimum Wage.
- a payslip detailing any deductions
- a P46 (tax form). This form can be downloaded from the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) website.
