Diversity of student body
Around a quarter of our student population comes to study at Edinburgh from overseas. Living and learning in the most multicultural university community in Scotland, our students are exposed to different ideas and have every opportunity to expand their horizons.
The University's international reputation for excellence across all disciplines is reflected in the diversity of its student population.
Our student population numbers over 26,000 of which:
- 71% are undergraduates and 29% are postgraduates
- 56% are female and 44% are male
- 7% of undergraduates and 4% of postgraduates have a declared disability
- 6% of undergraduates and 9% of postgraduates are from a UK-domiciled ethnic minority background
As well as all our current students, we continue to help graduates of the University of Edinburgh for two years after graduation, and graduates of other universities for one year after graduation.
We have approximately 159,000 alumni from 240 different countries.
