We offer three-year and four-year PhD programmes, tailored to fit your needs. Projects are available in all of our research areas.

As a research student you will be based in one of our Research Institutes, and will also be a member of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences.

Your training

We offer two routes to a PhD: a four-year programme which includes a substantial training element, and a three-year PhD programme for students with a strong background in their chosen area. We will discuss the options with you at interview stage.

All our PhD projects are tailored to your development needs and you will have the option to attend the courses you need to develop your scientific skills.

Being a PhD student also provides the opportunity to develop a wide range of professional and transferable skills to prepare you for your future career. All PhD students in the Graduate School of Biological Sciences are encouraged to take part in a comprehensive programme of transferable skills training and other Graduate School events.
