Accommodation Services have teamed up with the Big Green Makeover project to support students in first year self-catered flats to save energy, reduce their carbon footprints and save money as part of a new Accommodation Services initiative.
Residents' Assistants have received basic energy awareness training and will use a short questionnaire to guide students on the energy usage of various appliances and highlight opportunities to make savings. This includes learning how to control the heating system, taking shorter showers and using kitchen appliances more efficiently.
It is hoped that this knowledge will prove useful when students look for and move into private accommodation in subsequent years.
Enthusiastic residents are also encouraged to volunteer with the Big Green Makeover project to help other students and staff to save money and make their homes warmer.
The Big Green Makeover project is part of Transition Edinburgh University, a community project of students and staff working to create a low-carbon University. Please see the link below for further details:
