Accommodation Services Cashless Catering

What is the new cashless catering facility?

An electronic purse on your new University Card allows you to load money onto your card via a secure website and offers a range of benefits exclusive only to cashless catering users. Catering tills will still take cash.

Why should I use cashless catering?

How do I start using cashless catering?

You should have received an email from admin@cssmartload.net in your University email account with a user name and password. Go to www.cssmartload.net/app/ and enter these details to activate your web wallet, then register the credit/debit card from which you want to transfer money. You can also use the Web Wallet channel in MyEd (People and Personal category). If you did not receive the email, contact cashless-catering@mlist.is.ed.ac.uk

How do I add value to my card to use for cashless catering?

Once you have activated your web wallet, go to a live Smart Service Point (SSP) at a catering outlet to load money onto your card. There are two ways to do so:

Instant Load:

This is the quickest and easiest way to load money directly from the credit/debit card that you registered in your web wallet. Insert your University card into the SSP and press the ‘Instant Load’ button. Select the amount to load onto your card, then enter the CVV number (three numbers on reverse) of the credit/debit card. The minimum download is £5, which is available for immediate use.

Account Load:

Alternatively, you can upload funds to your web wallet before going to the SSP, then use Account Load to transfer funds from your web wallet onto your card. This is recommended only if other people are loading funds into your web wallet, e.g. students’ parents. The value in your web wallet is held in a University account. Insert your card into the SSP, press the ‘Account Load’ button, then download funds in £5 increments using your personal four digit key (smart key) as security.

*Only ‘Instant Load’ or ‘Account Load’ to your card the money you intend to spend as the value on the card is your responsibility, not the University’s.
