Standing Commission on Discipline

The Standing Commission on Discipline reviews University disciplinary procedures.

It was established by Senate to provide a forum for discussion and review of disciplinary procedures within the University, either on its own initiative or at the request of the Senate or the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

The Standing Commission formulates rules on what will be treated as disciplinary offences before referring these to the Senate for approval and adoption. It also proposes amendments to the Code of Student Discipline for approval by the Senatus and the Court prior to adoption. It has oversight of nominations to membership of the University Discipline Committee, remitting these to Senate for approval. The Commission normally undertakes any business via correspondence.

Membership

The Standing Commission comprises 12 members, half of whom are University staff and half student members. The six staff members are appointed by the Senate from amongst its members for a period of up to six years. The student members, who must be matriculated students of this University, are nominated annually by the SRC.
