Iain Philip (PhD student)

Thesis title: Syrian refugees learning English in Scotland

Background

Iain was born in Fiji and grew up in Jordan, Scotland, Indonesia and Yemen meaning that while he is offically Scottish his feelings of cultural and national identity are somewhat complex. He has been a English teacher for most of his life working in Cambodia, Bhutan, Jordan, Bangladesh and Taiwan before returning to live in Edinburgh in 2014. He is married with two children and is presently completing a PhD in Education at University of Edinburgh.
