Andy Clark, professor of logic and metaphysics in PPLS

Andy Clark, professor of logic and metaphysics in PPLS, has been named as one of the 50 most influential living philosophers.

The list, compiled by the Best Schools website, lists Clark alongside such luminaries as Noam Chomsky and Daniel Dennett.

Professor Clark is perhaps best known as a leading exponent of the extended mind hypothesis. This is the claim that human thought and reason is not entirely 'in the head' or confined to our physical bodies: rather, thinking and remembering are distributed beyond our bodies to the technologies and social networks that help us organise and retrieve information. This work has inspired new discussion around the boundaries of concepts such as thinking and being human.

Clark has recently been awarded around 1.4 million euros of European funding for a project on embodied prediction and consciousness.
