Presenter: Dr Mog Stapleton (University of Edinburgh)
Title: The Heart of Self Awareness
Abstract: In this talk I will review some of the recent literature on interoception (the sense of the visceral body) and consider what this can tell us about the different ways that one feels one's body. I will then draw on work in bodily phenomenology in order to explore how these differences in interoception shape our experience of the world, in both healthy individuals and those with psychopathologies.
We are a group of researchers from diverse backgrounds in the above-mentioned groups (and beyond) who aim to gain an interdisciplinary yet deep understanding of the threads that bind the human mind and the world. Please come along!
