Title: Free will and responsibility in the age of neuroscience
Abstract: Philosophers have long been worried about whether the sciences will show free will and moral responsibility to be illusory. In this talk I argue that two kinds of claims that neuroscience undermines freedom are mistaken, and that neuroscience does not pose a credible threat to our concept of moral responsibility. Instead, other work in cognitive science and experimental philosophy suggests that moral responsibility rests on non metaphysical factors, and that these can be elucidated by cooperation between philosophy and cognitive science.
