Title: Models on the Move: Migration and Imperialism
Abstract: In this paper we will introduce the concept of 'model migration' via two examples of cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer: econophysics and Bayesian phylogeographic linguistics. Our notion of migration will be contrasted with the importantly different concept of 'imperialism', influentially discussed Maki in the context of geographical economics. This contrast draws our focus upon the notion of 're-sanctioning', that will be argued to be the defining and crucial feature of successful model migration.
