The University of Edinburgh is part of a consortium of ten Higher Education institutions which has been awarded funding from the AHRC to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland. Under the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) scheme, the consortium - comprised of the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, University of Highlands & Islands, St Andrews, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - will consider applications for doctoral studentship awards in the majority of Arts and Humanities subjects. The consortium is organised through the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH).

Eligibility

The AHRC welcomes PhD researchers from the world (UK, the EU and International). All funded PhD students, whether UK or International will be eligible for a full award – both a stipend to support living costs, and fees at the HEIs’ UK rate.

In accordance with UKRI and AHRC policy, permissible positive action is being applied to the 2024 SGSAH DTP Open Studentships. For the 2024 competition, SGSAH is making available at least three ring-fenced studentships for applicants from UK Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. These 3 ring-fenced studentships represent a minimum recruitment, with no maximum.

Applicants should apply to the Doctoral Training Partnership rather than the Collaborative scheme.

Application process

1. Applicants are encouraged to make contact with the School as soon as possible to register their interest in this funding opportunity as this will allow the School to track the progress of your application. Please email the School Postgraduate Team to register interest. It is also useful for applicants to contact potential supervisors early in the process to assist in the application process.
2. Applicants must complete the University of Edinburgh application form for the relevant PhD programme. Once this application has been submitted, applicants will receive email confirmation from the system including their User Name (UUN). PhD application deadline: 13 November 2023

3. Applicants must complete an additional SGSAH application form and submit via email to the PPLS Postgraduate Team by Friday 1st December 2023.

Deadlines

PhD Application: Monday 13th November 2023

SGSAH Application Form: Friday 1st December 2023

Please note: you must complete both steps by the specified deadlines in order to be considered for this funding opportunity.

You will be notified by end of January 2024 if you have been nominated by the University to go forward to the next round of the funding competition. If you are nominated by the University, you will be asked to submit the SGSAH studentship application via the SGSAH application portal between 1-13 February 2024.

Final funding decisions will be made by the SGSAH by the end of April 2024.
