Nesta and the AMR DxC Winter school would like to invite you to come and find out more about the £10m Longitude Prize and the considerations for developing a rapid point-of-care diagnostic.
The Longitude Prize is an historic challenge with a £10 million prize fund that aims to conserve antibiotics for future generations. The challenge is to develop a rapid, accurate, affordable and easy-to-use point-of-care test that will identify when antibiotics are needed.
The Prize was opened in 2014 and will run until September 2019 or until a winner is found.
The event will be hosted by Till Bachmann, Deputy Head of Division of Infection and Pathway Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
Speakers include
- Sue Welburn, Edinburgh Medical School -- The Role of Global Research Collaboration to meet the Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance
- Gyorgy Abel, Harvard Medical School -- A clinical perspective on the need for rapid diagnostic tests to diagnose bacterial infections and an overview of the United States NIH AMR prize
- Penny Wilson, Innovate UK -- UK landscape of support for diagnostics development
- Sarah Bailey, Longitude Prize -- A global competition to develop a rapid diagnostic test to drive more rational use of antibiotics
- Stephen Gillespie, St Andrews University -- Antibiotic resistance: you need to be SLIC
There will be time for questions and discussion following the presentations.
Everybody is welcome to attend.
