Our team of over 30 consultant Clinical Pathologists provide subspecialty expertise in histopathology reporting of the entire range of specimens in clinical medicine and surgery.
Pathologists are grouped into subspecialty teams, with 2 to 6 in each team, each pathologist usually being a member of two or three teams. This arrangement maximizes appropriate use of highly developed expertise in the correct subspecialty, while maintaining a flexible and responsive service.
Our Clinical Pathologists’ expertise is well recognized throughout the UK and internationally, and our consultants receive many specimens referred from other centres for review or opinion. Their expertise also benefits many researchers in Edinburgh and beyond, who require histological validation of relevant tissue samples for their studies. Clinical pathologists provide the essential link between the research groups, Edinburgh Pathology and the clinical teams looking after patients.
