Research Support Office welcomes director

Dr Lorna Thomson has been appointed Director of the University’s Research Support Office.

Dr Lorna Thomson

The Research Support Office provides comprehensive information, services and support to members of the University's research community in their pursuit of grant funding.

It has specialist advisors for each of the three Colleges, a dedicated European policy and funding team, a Contracts Office. It also hosts the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science’s Knowledge Exchange office.

Biography

Lorna has joined from Kings College London where she was, most recently, Director of Research Strategy. Prior to Kings College London, Lorna worked with the Royal Society of Chemistry.

She completed her degree and PhD in Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde and spent time in industry before moving into management.

I am delighted to join the University of Edinburgh at such an exciting time for research. The environment is rapidly changing and we must be agile in our approach to take advantage of key opportunities such as GCRF. I hope to continue the excellent work of the Research Support Office, with a very talented team, whilst looking for opportunities to enhance what we can offer to our academic colleagues. I look forward to engaging with staff across all Colleges to understand how we can best support the research endeavour.
