Innovative Learning Week

A festival which inspires, supports and celebrates creative learning at the University.

Innovative Learning Week 2016

This year, Innovative Learning Week (ILW) takes place from 15-19 February.

The University-run festival is a unique opportunity for staff and students to explore and share their learning experience through collaborative events and activities.  

Events programme

With over 200 events, this year’s festival takes place around the theme Ideas in Play. 

Highlight include:

  • TEDx University of Edinburgh - A staple of Innovative Learning Week, TEDx University of Edinburgh is a program of local, self-organized events which focus on an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge.
  • The Apprentice - The Edinburgh Apprentice is the biggest business competition in Edinburgh! 250 selected students will compete for the title of 'The Edinburgh Apprentice'.
  • Retrospect - Retrospect’s award-winning 24 hour magazine event is back. We will be writing, editing, designing and publishing a magazine online in one day alongside a 24 hour radio broadcast from FreshAir.
  • Artificial Intelligence in the Cinema - A full day event with about 8 movies and 2-3 short talks and a short panel discussion.

ILW Newspaper

Over the past five years, ILW has hosted nearly 2,000 events.
