Gaelic festival launches city-wide
Seachdain na Gàidhlig, or Edinburgh Gaelic Week, originally launched by the University in 2014, is expanding to encompass the full range of Gaelic activity on offer across Edinburgh.
From 18 to 24 October 2015, staff, students and the wider community are invited to celebrate Gaelic’s place in the city through a series of Gaelic-related events.
The programme includes a variety of opportunities to learn about Gaelic culture and language and to use it at all levels.
The week begins with a Gaelic Service at Greyfriar’s Kirk and culminates in the Closing Celebration of songs, tunes and stories.
Edinburgh has a vibrant and diverse Gaelic community, and we hope to get as many people involved as possible in Seachdain na Gàidhlig, this new Gaelic addition to the festival city! We hope staff, students and the Edinburgh community will join us.
Varied events
The week’s events, aimed at a variety of audiences, range from a Gaelic-themed tour of the Scottish Parliament to a Gaelic and Whisky Taster.
The programme includes a talk from Gaelic-speaking artist and former artist in residence at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Eòghann MacColla.
